About the Uncle Moondog CDs
Created and performed by musician and songwriter Mike McManus, Uncle Moondog and Uncle Moondog Baloney Cake bring upbeat, humorous songs to preschoolers. A musical beach-lovin’ dog, Uncle Moondog joins his friends, Bampy, Paulie the walrus, and Timmy the goldfish as they entertain preschoolers with their cheerful and catchy tunes. Mike McManus’ wife, Joan, provides sound effects and “girlie noises” that add to the musical fun.
Uncle Moondog was the first of the two CDs to entertain preschoolers. Uncle Moondog features a variety of music genres including blues, oldies, country, rock-n-roll, pop, and reggae that have preschoolers dancing and singing along. This upbeat preschool CD transports listeners to sunny beaches where the surf’s up and good times are happenin’!
Uncle Moondog Baloney Cake features humorous lyrics, silly sound effects, and loads of toe-tappin’ imaginative fun. A variety of instrumentals contribute to the mix of oldies, rock-n-roll, country, and pop songs on this hilarious preschool CD. Uncle Moondog Baloney Cake includes The Birthday Song, which is sure to become a family favorite and makes this album a great preschool birthday gift!

My children and I listened to Uncle Moondog and Uncle Moondog Baloney Cake back to back and over again! Many of the songs, with their neat beats and catchy lyrics, are reminiscent of Beach Boys tunes and had my children dancing and humming along. Playful and silly, the Uncle Moondog songs were like a breath of fresh air in our day-to-day routine.
The Uncle Moondog CDs promote the values of friendship. From the Uncle Moondog CD, songs New Goldfish and Bampy’s Bungalow encourage preschoolers to enjoy their friends with fun and play. The Walrus Waltz and Fins, Feet, or Flippers from the Uncle Moondog Baloney Cake CD also encourage preschoolers to get out and socialize with friends.
The Uncle Moondog CDs poke silly fun at daily routines. Issues such as hygiene (Stanky Socks and Bathtime Blues from the Uncle Moondog CD), pet care (New Goldfish and Dancing with My Dog from the Uncle Moondog CD), and boredom (Shufflin’ My Feet from the Uncle Moondog CD) are simply and humorously addressed so that preschoolers can relate.
The Uncle Moondog CDs make preschoolers want to dance! The rich, upbeat tempo presented on both Uncle Moondog albums makes it impossible to simply sit and listen! Porpoises, Pelicans, & Palm Trees from the Uncle Moondog CD is just an example of the dance-inspiring music that preschoolers will love. Often silly, always playful, and never dull, both Uncle Moondog albums had my children and me humming and singing the catchy and lighthearted lyrics throughout the day.
