Melting Snowman Holiday Craft

This silly snowman stayed out in the sun too long! Your preschooler will enjoy creating this fun and easy preschool Christmas craft that depicts a snowman head resting on a “puddle” of melted “snow”. The Melting Snowman Holiday Craft idea comes from PreschoolRock.com’s ever-creative executive editor, Stacey Lloyd, and makes an adorable winter or holiday decoration!

Materials You Will Need

Styrofoam ball
White school glue
Black felt squares
Red felt square
Scissors
Black magic marker
Large glass plate
Small child’s mittens

How to Make It

Step 1:

With the black magic marker, decorate the styrofoam ball with eyes, nose and a mouth.

Step 2:

Make a top hat for the melting snowman craft:

- Cut a 3-inch thick strip from the black felt squares; form into a cylinder and glue the seam.
- Using a small cereal bowl as a guide, cut a circle from the black felt squares.
- Using a cup as a guide, cut a smaller circle from the black felt squares.
- Glue the cylinder shape onto the larger circle.
- Glue the smaller circle on top of the cylinder to create the snowman’s top hat.
- Allow the glue to dry.

Step 3:

Glue the top hat onto the snowman’s head.

Step 4:

Cut a scarf for the melting snowman from the red felt square.

Step 5:

Pour a large amount of white school glue onto the glass plate and spread into a “puddle” shape. Set the snowman head in the center.

Step 6:

Wrap the red scarf around the bottom of the snowman’s head on the glue “puddle”. Place the small mittens on either side of the snowman’s head.

Allow all of the glue to dry. Then carefully peel the entire glue puddle with the mittens and snowman’s head away from the glass plate. Display the Melting Snowman Holiday Craft along with your Christmas or winter decorations!

Additional Ideas for the Melting Snowman

Place a pair of small sunglasses on the snowman’s face and set the Melting Snowman Holiday Craft in a box lid full of sand for a silly snowman melting at the beach!
