Five Tips for a Hassle-Free Holiday Crafts Party
Thinking of throwing a holiday crafts party for your preschooler and friends? Here are a few tips to help you create a stress-free environment:
When sending invitations, be sure to ask your guests to RSVP by a certain date. This will give you an idea of how many items you'll need to have prepared. For instance, if you're making the Three Little Kittens Mittens ornaments, you'll want to know how many mittens to cut out, how many kitten faces to prepare, etc. Always be ready for an extra guest or two since things change at the last minute. Better more than less!
Do as much prep work as possible before the party. For instance, most cut-outs should be done in advance. Even if the preschoolers are advanced enough to use scissors, they might grow impatient having to wait their turn to use them.
Write each guest's name on a piece of blank paper. When each preschooler is finished with his project, he can set it on the paper with his name. This eliminates confusion about who-made-what and is especially good for holiday craft projects that need a little drying time.
Use disposable plastic plates for paint or glue. Set around two or three plates (depending on the amount of guests) with dabs of paint or glue and plenty of cotton swabs, paintbrushes, or cotton balls for dipping. This eliminates having to pass a bottle of glue or paint around.
Have your guests make the holiday crafts before refreshments and games. Not only does this allow for drying time for painted/glued items, it gets the preschoolers nice and hungry for those yummy holiday snacks.
