Gingerbread Man Ornaments Using Fabric Paint
These charming felt "gingerbread" ornaments will give your holiday tree an irresistibly delicious effect. You and your preschooler will enjoy working together using fabric paint for eyes, mouths, bow ties, clothing, or almost any embellishment your creative preschooler will want to add. With the materials listed, you'll be able to create approximately 30 delicious-looking ornaments that your preschooler will always be proud of.
Materials You Will Need
5 brown felt squares
Red, white and black shiny fabric paint
Red and/or white ribbon
Gingerbread man cookie cutter
Scissors
Marking pen
How to Make It
Step 1:
Place the cookie cutter onto the felt and trace around it with your pen. You should be able to fit about six men onto one felt square.
Step 2:
Cut out the gingerbread men.
Step 3:
Decorate your gingerbread men with fabric paint "icing", using black for eyes and mouth, red for bow ties and buttons, and white to outline the gingerbread men.
Step 4:
Allow the paint to dry. Overnight is best.
Step 5:
When paint is completely dry, cut a tiny hole in the top of the head with scissors. Thread white or red ribbon through the hole and create a loop for hanging onto the Christmas tree.
Helpful Hint
Preschoolers have short attention spans, so it's a good idea to do all the pre-cutting before your darling sits down to help. Unless, of course, your child is adept with scissors and would like to make the cut-outs herself.
Additional Uses
These adorable gingerbread men not only look great on the tree, they also make charming gift ornaments. Simply tie them to wrapped packages, around gift jars, or dangle from gift bags. Not only will the gift recipient marvel at your creativity, she'll be able to reuse the gingerbread man tag as her own tree ornament.
