Holiday or Christmas Stockings Using Miniatures

Want to add charm to your preschooler's holiday stocking? From tiny candy canes to itty bitty strings of lights, miniatures purchased from your local hobby and craft store will transform an ordinary felt stocking to an adorable work of art. Your preschooler will delight in this personalized addition to your holiday decor and will beam with pride year after year.

Materials You Will NeedDifficulty Level 2 out of 5

Felt stocking
1 dark green felt square
1 white felt square
Gold glitter fabric paint
Fabric glue or tacky glue
Scissors
Pen

Miniatures

Miniature gold star
Miniature ornaments (candy canes, presents, lights, etc.)
1" teddy bear
1/4" red pom poms

How to Make It

Step 1:

Draw and cut a Christmas tree shape from the green felt. This should be large enough to fit the stocking.

Step 2:

Draw and cut a flat oval shape from the white felt. This should be about 2" tall and 1" wider than the base of the tree, creating a tree skirt. Stocking Pattern

Step 3:

Apply fabric glue around the edges of the tree, leaving the bottom edge unglued. Place the tree in the center of the stocking. Apply fabric glue around the edge of the tree skirt. Place the tree skirt under the unglued base of the tree, then glue the bottom edge of the tree to the skirt.

Step 4:

Decorate your tree by glueing the miniature ornaments and pom poms onto the tree. Glue the teddy bear and miniature presents onto the tree skirt. Be sure to leave the star for last!

Step 5:

Personalize the stocking by writing your preschooler's name (with the glitter fabric paint) onto the cuff of the stocking.

Step 6:

Allow the stocking to dry overnight before hanging over the fireplace or on the wall.

Helpful Hint

If your preschooler has a short attention span, it's a good idea to do all the pre-cutting before your preschooler sits down to help.
